Campus Optics Enhances Cultures of Safety at Caltech

In support of a stronger culture of safety at Caltech, the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) team is rolling out CampusOptics, a comprehensive platform designed to streamline safety operations and risk management across the Campus community. The tool features centralized tracking of inspections, incident reporting and corrective actions; and has the capability to support chemical inventories and documentation of required training completion, helping ensure that compliance processes remain efficient and transparent.

CampusOptics is expected to bring increased visibility and consistency to EH&S processes, offering real-time data tracking and customizable dashboards. Its mobile-friendly interface will allow staff, faculty, and students to report issues, track completion of corrective actions, and manage EH&S activities directly from the field, improving responsiveness, data accuracy, and ultimately improve safety across campus.

The initial rollout will focus on key operational areas, including laboratory safety, facilities management, and hazardous materials tracking. Future phases will extend usage to the wider Campus community. The collaboration of building managers, researchers, and student safety advocates will be central to fostering a shared sense of responsibility and community care.
